Technology Article: Teens' enthusiasm for Facebook is waning

Many teens have stopped using Facebook and have turned to other social media. Such as Twitter, Instagram  and Snapchat. Teens feel like there is too much drama on Facebook now and that their parents are controlling over there Facebook. Some teens said that they feel like they can express themselves better on other social media sites. They felt freed from the social expectations and constraints of Facebook. Pew found that the typical (median) teen Facebook user has 300 friends, while the typical teen Twitter user has 79 followers. Many people will still keep their Facebook so they can still check it every so often. Or they will keep it because it is connected to other social media.

Technology Article - Is Yahoo going to buy Tumblr?

Is Yahoo about to buy Tumblr?

On Thursday May 16th talks were held between Tumblr's owner David Karp and the CEO of Yahoo Marissa Mayer. Now that Tumblr is becoming more popular Mayer has become more interested in it than in past years. She has offered Karp 1 billion dollars for the creation on his site. People believe that if Yahoo bought Tumblr Yahoo would become popular again but many Tumblr users disagree. If Karp did sell Tumblr to Yahoo at 1 billion dollars then it would be the biggest purchase since Facebook bought Instagram last year.

Career Cluster Results

My top career cluster was Human Services. Human services help individuals and families meet their personal needs. Jobs that fall under this pathway are psychologists, physical therapist, mental health counselors, and child care workers. Caring and nurturing toward others. I think that this fits me well. I would want to be a mental health counselor or work in social services. Another one of my top results is Education and Teaching. This is another pathway I would want to work in. I would like to learn sign language and become a teacher.

Google Docs Wrap-Up

Google Docs

I like using the Google Docs because your work automatically saves and it is easy to share with your partner. I also like the fact that it can be accessed from any computer unlike Microsoft applications. One of the few things I dislike about Google Docs is how the Copy + Paste does not work unless you use the keyboard shortcuts. Also I dislike how it lacks some tools that are in Microsoft that are useful. I liked the fact that I was able to work on the same document with my partner. I also like the chat feature so I could communicate with my partner.I think that Google could make a list of the people that you have shared things with before so it was there for quick access. I think my project turned out pretty well.

Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell was born March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell was called Aleck. He had two brothers, Melville James and Edward Charles both who died from tuberculosis. He was given the middle name Graham when he was 10 years old. Bell was homeschooled by his mother, which had a profound influence on him being a proficient pianist despite her deafness. Bell had on year of formal education in a private school and two years at Edinburgh’s Royal High School. His education was largely received through numerous experiments in sound and the furthering of his father’s work on Visible Speech for the deaf. Visible Speech is a method of teaching speech to the deaf. In 1870 the family decided to immigrate to Canada. They settled in Brantford, Southern Ontario.

Bell made many inventions in his life. His first invention was a device with rotating paddles with sets of nail brushes that dehusked wheat faster. The “photophone” was another device created by Bell this device enabled sound to be transmitted on a beam of light. Though out 1873 and 1874, Bell spent long days and nights trying to perfect the harmonic telephone. Bell worked with Thomas Watson on the design and patent of the first practical telephone. Then throughout 1847 and 1975, Bell and Watson labored on both the harmonic telegraph and a voice transmitting device. In 1976 at the age of 29 Bell invented the telephone.

Alexander Graham Bell often experimented with things also.  Bell often got sidetracked with transmitting the human voice over wires. He explored kites, airplanes, sheep breeding and water distillation. Also he looked into the nature of heredity among the deaf. When Bell's newborn son, Edward, died from respiratory problems, and Bell responded by designing a metal vacuum jacket that would facilitate breathing. In 1881 he constructed an electromagnetic device called an induction balance to try and locate a bullet lodged in President Garfield after an assassin had shot him. In 1883 Bell invented the graphophone, the first practical system of sound recording.

Bell had a lot of different jobs throughout his life. At 16, Alexander Graham Bell taught at Weston House Academy in Elgin, Scotland. In 1872, he set out to tutor deaf children in Boston. He opened a school for the teachers of the deaf in Boston in 1873 and became a professor of vocal physiology at the city’s university. In 1877 he formed the Bell Telephone Company and married Mabel Hubbard. In 1881 he set up the Volta Laboratory in Washington, D.C. Bell held 18 patents in his name alone and 12 that he shared with colleagues. He died in 1922.

Recap of Deputy Krupp's Vist

From Deputy Krupp I learned many things. I learned that I should use multiple passwords when on the computer. I also  should be careful where I give out my personal information. Also when I am talking to people I should realize that what they say to me may not be true. Here are a lot of creepers out there that will do anything to meet you. I'll make sure to follow more carefully, make sure I'm safe on the internet and if someone tries to sext one of my friends I'll report it as soon as possible.

My QR Code

QRCode

QR Codes

QR Code Thoughts

I think it's too much work to have a "secret code" since most people are on their phones now and won't be near a computer when they need to scan the code.
I could see the purpose in business people using secret codes for websites since they will always have computers and phones.
